What is Bella Ramsey’s ethnicity? Her British origins

Bella Ramsey

Bella Ramsey faced unimaginable hate when HBO announced that she would star as Ellie in The Last of Us – most critics thought she didn’t resemble Ellie in The Last of Us videogame. Ramsey shushed the naysayers by executing the role to perfection.

Ramsey refrained from addressing the netizens who criticized her appearance, but she isn’t holding back against opponents of LGBTQ+ representation in the show.

“The climate emergency and stuff, there are so many things to be worried about than two people in love kissing on a screen,” Ramsey told Sky News.

Bella is Caucasian and grew up in Nottingham, England

Bella Ramsey was born in Nottingham, England, to Caucasian parents. Ramsey’s parents have thus far avoided the spotlight, rarely appearing on Ramsey’s social media pages.

In fact, the only image available online of Ramsey’s mum is that of her thumb, which Ramsey posted on 21st August 2020. Ramsey’s dad is a businessman and trumpet player named Alex Ramsey.

Ramsey’s parents have supported Ramsey throughout her career. They were ecstatic when Ramsey landed the role of Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch. Ramsey talked to the BBC about her family’s reaction to the news:

“They are all very proud and supportive. When we got the phone call I was with my mum, sister, cousin, and auntie, there was a lot of screaming and excited jumping, you could have filled a bathtub with the proud teardrops!”

The online conversation about race and ethnicity in The Last of Us rages on, with some viewers claiming that the actors’ ethnicities don’t match with the characters in the game.

Regardless, every character in The Last of Us has delivered. The overwhelmingly positive reactions to the series have largely drowned out the negativity, with Ramsey emerging to further silence the critics.
