What’s wrong with Bella Ramsey’s face? Her health issues detailed

Ramsey’s casting as Ellie in The Last of Us has caused a stir. Few people contest that she’s talented enough to embody the beloved gaming character. However, some viewers opine that Bella Ramsey’s face isn’t the right fit. Unfortunately, a fair few netizens have used vile and hateful tweets to express their displeasure. 

There is nothing wrong with Bella Ramsey’s face

Bella Ramsey’s face is fine. The internet posts claiming there’s something wrong with her face are wrong. 

Fortunately, Ramsey’s supporters have defended her, calling out the insensitive netizens who’ve posted mean comments about the teenager’s face. @elenasghost tweeted:

“People commenting on Bella Ramsey’s face are disgusting me. She’s a very talented actor and as pretty as a teenager who plays A CHILD can be!”

Bella Ramsey struggled mentally due to her anorexia nervosa diagnosis

In October 2018, Bella Ramsey tweeted that doctors had diagnosed her with anorexia nervosa in 2017 but had struggled with the disease since 2016.  

Per Cleveland Clinic, anorexia nervosa is a potentially fatal eating disorder ‘characterized by extreme food restriction and an intense fear of gaining weight’. People with the condition may exercise excessively or purge the food they eat. Left untreated, anorexia can cause malnutrition, health problems, and death. 

Ramsey wrote that doctors couldn’t identify the event that sparked the eating disorder. She continued:

“There isn’t always an answer but let me tell you this – there’s always a way out. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dim it might seem. I am fortunate to have reached that light, at moments it felt non existent. But it was always there.”

Ramsey said that she overcame anorexia nervosa through her religious faith and support from her family. 

Ramsey’s experience inspired her to become a mental health advocate. In December 2019, she announced that she’d become an ambassador for YoungMinds, a mental health charity for young people. 

“As lots of you know, I am passionate about talking about mental health and destroying the stigma surrounding it,” she wrote on Instagram. 

In January 2023, Ramsey talked to Elle about her decision to leave The Worst Witch. She said people wrongly believed she left the show to focus on her mental health. However, she’d already resolved her mental health issues by the time she left the series. She explained:

“I would say the more accurate description is that I had resolved a lot of my mental health problems by that point. And then the idea was that, ‘I’m not going to do this fourth season because it’s not worth it, because I’m in a better place now.’”
