With her first credited role as Lady Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, Bella Ramsey had a remarkable launching pad into her acting career. Just six years in and at the age of 19, she has amassed critical cred and commercial success for her roles in numerous shows and films. She is currently teaming up with fellow Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal in the hit HBO drama series The Last of Us.
Considering her noteworthy filmography, one might be inclined to question if she came from privilege and had industry connections. Rest assured that Ramsey was born to an ordinary family in Nottingham, England, and her parents are very private persons despite having the spotlight on their daughter.

As far as the news outlets are concerned, there is little information online about who Bella Ramsey’s parents are and what they do. Her father Alex Ramsey is known to be a businessman who also plays the trumpet but her mother’s identity and occupation remain unknown.
Ramsey, who began acting at the age of four as a hobby, said that her parents were always supportive of her choice to pursue acting. For seven years from when she was 8 to 15, she attended the Loughborough branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts with her older sister.
She then auditioned to sign up for Television Workshop – a British organization that coaches young people in performance skills – and got in. There she started training and auditioning for professional roles in television and films, eventually landing her first role at 13 years old.
“I only thought of acting as a hobby until three years ago when I got into Television Workshop, which is an amazing place. Through Workshop I started to audition and had several auditions and rejections for various parts before landing my first professional role in Game of Thrones season six and then Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch,” she said.
In a 2016 interview with the BBC, Ramsey recalled her family’s overjoyed reaction to her getting the lead role of Mildred Hubble in the CBBC/Netflix fantasy drama The Worst Witch.
“They are all very proud and supportive. When we got the phone call I was with my mum, sister, cousin, and auntie, there was a lot of screaming and excited jumping, you could have filled a bathtub with the proud teardrops!” she said.
Her mother’s only public appearance, if it can even be considered as one, was in an Instagram snap posted by Ramsay on August 21, 2020. While the picture does not expose her mother’s face, it shows a thumbs-up from her. Ramsey captioned the post as “featuring my mum’s thumb”.
