Was Brandon Smiley sick? All we know

In late January 2023, Rickey Smiley announced the death of his son Brandon Smiley. “I hate to announce this, but I just want to give it to you before you hear it in the streets: My son Brandon has passed away this morning,” Rickey said, as he prepared to leave for the airport. 

Rickey compared his pain to the anguish his grandparents felt when his father died. “I lost my oldest son #BrandonSmiley this morning. Please pray for my son’s mother Brenda, his siblings and his daughter Storm,” Rickey wrote.

Brandon, an actor and comedian like his father, had made commendable progress as a stand-up star in the years before his death. 

The medical examiner and lab tests will determine whether Brandon Smiley was sick

It’s unclear whether Brandon Smiley was sick. We’ve received no reports claiming that Brandon Smiley was ailing before his death. 

According to WVTM 13 reporter Carla Wade, Brandon was found unresponsive at his home in the late morning hours of 29th January 2023. Wade posted on Facebook that Brandon died at UAB Hospital. 

“There was no evidence of foul play or trauma,” Carla wrote. “The cause of death will be determined by laboratory tests.”

Condolences have poured in from fans and celebrities, including Magic Johnson, who tweeted: “Rickey Smiley’s son Brandon passed away today. Cookie and I are praying for Rickey, Brandon’s mother Brenda, his siblings, his daughter and all of his loved ones. May God bless the family.”
