Felton Spencer, a 12-year NBA veteran who retired in 2002 following spells with the Timberwolves, Jazz, Warriors, Spurs, and Knicks, died on 12th March 2023. Spencer is a University of Louisville legend – his 62.8% field goal percentage has never been beaten. Louisville Men’s Basketball tweeted:
“We’re heartbroken by the passing of UofL great Felton Spencer. Spencer was the Cardinals’ all-time leader in career field goal percentage, the 6th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft, & a beloved member of the Louisville community. Our thoughts & prayers are with his loved ones.”
Spencer’s cause of death is unclear, but it seems like he spent some time in the hospital
Spencer’s Sister, Tammy Pollock, tweeted that Spencer died ‘peacefully’ on 12th March 2023. She added:
“It was befitting that he received excellent care in his final hours from the providers at the University of Louisville Hospital, his Alma mater that he loved so dearly. Our family thanks them and everyone who participated in his care.”
It’s uncertain whether Spencer was rushed to the hospital due to a medical emergency or he was battling an illness. The family hasn’t publicized his cause of death.
Meanwhile, tributes keep pouring in from the basketball community. Basketball coach and Spencer’s former teammate Everick Sullivan tweeted:
“I spent last night thinking about the life and legacy of my college teammate Felton Spencer. Chief epitomized hard work and dedication. He was an amazing person and had a kind spirit. You will be truly missed big fella. I’m honored to have been your teammate.”
Rex Chapman, a retired NBA player and Spencer’s former teammate, tweeted: “Felton Spencer was one of the sweetest, kindest, people I’ve ever known. Grew up in KY together & have known each other since age 15. Played on the last Kentucky all-star team to sweep Indiana together. Played against one another in college & the pros. A sad day. Rest Big Fella.”
As has become the norm, some netizens are using a famous person’s death to spread anti-vaccine agendas. It’s improbable that Spencer died due to a vaccine complication.
